Share

10/5/2021 – Saint Joseph’s College (7-1-2, 6-0-0 GNAC) blanked Lasell University (2-9-0, 1-6-0 GNAC), 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks applied consistent pressure throughout and found the scoreboard in the ninth minute when senior Austin Ward (North Andover, Mass.) netted his second goal of the season.

The 1-0 edge remained until the 60th minute, when senior Kuma Onyejose (East Greenwich, R.I.) potted his fourth tally of the year off a throw-in from sophomore Aidan Hickey (Yarmouth, Maine) and head flick from graduate student Quinn Hewitt (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).

Colin Grant (Harvard, Mass.) capped the game scoring at the 76:33 mark when he knocked in his team-leading fifth goal of the year. Junior Maroche Kikobo (Kinshasa, DRC) took a free kick from the left side of the field that was deftly flicked on by Hewitt to Grant, who tapped the ball into a wide open net.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph’s held considerable leads in shots (27-3), shots on goal (11-3), and corner kicks (17-1) in the victory. The Monks broke the program’s single-game corner kicks record in tonight’s win. The previous record of 15 was set in a 10-0 triumph over Albertus Magnus College on October 13th, 2018.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC starter David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) made one save in 69:47 between the pipes while senior Rowan Daligan (Portland, Maine) – making his college debut – turned away a pair of shots in 20:13 of relief. Lasell netminder Zack Laware made eight saves in the losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
