Seven Women’s Soccer Players Claim All-GNAC Honors

11/8/2021— The 2021 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason accolades have been released and seven members of the Saint Joseph’s College women’s soccer team have been honored.

Adia Grogan

Senior goalkeeper Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) has claimed First Team All-GNAC and GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year awards for the second-consecutive season while junior forward Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) and senior midfielder Kayley Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) have also earned First Team All-GNAC honors.

Caitlin Callahan

Senior defender Caitlin Callahan (Gorham, Maine) is listed on the Second Team while freshman forward Alicen Burnham (Monmouth, Maine), senior midfielder Eilidh Sidaway (Dedham, Maine), and senior defender Elizabeth Flynn (Kennebunk, Maine) have earned Third Team awards.

Grogan claims First Team All-Conference and GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight season after posting a 1.08 goals against average and a .878 save percentage with 18 goals allowed and 130 saves in 1,505 minutes this fall. The three-year starter led the conference in games (20) and minutes and ranked second in the league in saves, save percentage, and shutouts.

In three years between the posts at Saint Joseph’s, Grogan accumulated a 40-15-3 record with 15 shutouts to go with a 1.06 goals against average and an .854 save percentage over 59 career games. She leaves the program ranked third in victories, fourth in saves (351), fifth in goals against average, and sixth in save percentage, shutouts, games, and minutes (5,076),

Madison Michaud

Michaud garners First Team All-Conference honors despite having missed 10 of the Monks’ 21 games due to injury this fall. In 11 contests, the junior standout scored 10 goals with four assists for 24 total points and tagged four game-winning tallies. She remains as the GNAC leader in points per game (2.18) and is ranked fourth in game-clinchers and sixth in goals.

Kayley Mattos

Mattos, a 2019 Second Team All-Conference selection, collects First Team acclaim after scoring three goals with four assists for 10 total points in 21 games this fall. A feisty player with speed and ball skills, Mattos enjoyed a fine career at St. Joe’s with 10 goals – including five game-winners – and seven assists for 27 total points in 53 games over three seasons.

Callahan collects her first All-GNAC nod as a Second Team honoree after helping anchor the Monks’ backline this season. One of just two players to start all 21 games this fall, Callahan played a key role not only for the Monks’ defense, but also their transition game, as she utilized her speed and field vision to help ignite the SJC offensive attack.

Alicen Burnham

Burnham claims Third Team All-Conference honors after tallying eight goals and three assists for 19 total points during her first collegiate campaign. The two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week selection helped fill the gap created by Michaud’s injury and scored six goals in the Monks’ final eight games.

Eilidh Sidaway

Sidaway earns Third Team All-GNAC honors after scoring a goal on 27 shots in 16 games during her senior season. A force in the midfield for the Monks, the team captain was adept at winning balls in the air as well as helping the Royal Blue transition to the offensive side of the field. In 52 career games, she netted two goals with four assists for 10 total points.

Elizabeth Flynn

Flynn caps the Monks’ list of seven All-Conference honorees with the first All-GNAC award of her career. As a senior, she started in 20 games and helped former high school teammate Adia Grogan post the third-lowest goals against average (0.63) versus conference foes this fall. A strong defender with a strong kick, Flynn played in 51 games over three seasons, including two as a starter.

In 2021, ninth-year Head Coach Jenelle Harris guided the Monks to a 12-8-0 overall record with an 11-3-0 mark in conference play en route to securing the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament. St. Joe’s blanked Elms College, 2-0, in a conference quarterfinal at the SJC Athletics Complex on September 30th but saw the season come to a close with a 2-0 setback at the hands of #2 Lasell University three days later.
