Mission Momentum: Three Faiths, Three Feasts, One Month

Mission Momentum is a monthly opportunity for conversations about and reflections on our Catholic identity, Mercy charism, and liberal arts foundation.
This year, three important feasts of the Abrahamic faiths overlap with one another: Ramadan (Islam), Passover (Judaism), and Easter (Christianity). This special Mission Momentum will feature SJC community members from each faith in conversation with one another on the meaning of these holidays. Google calendar invite coming soon.

Fast-a-Thon
Members of the SJCME community who are not observing the Ramadan, but want to experience what fasting for a day is like, are invited to participate in a Fast-a-Thon (sign up here). All are invited to fast for a day and then donate the money they would have spent on food to the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (donation page here). At the end of the day of fasting, there will be a special Iftar (meal to break the fast) at Pearson’s Cafe dining at sundown.
Special Interfaith Dinner at Pearson’s
On April 11, 2023, dinner at Pearson’s will feature foods commonly eaten in the Muslim world during the Ramadan, as well as common foods during Passover and Easter. This will then be followed by the Iftar at sundown.
