Wilhelm Tabbed as GNAC Rookie of the Week

Jared Wilhelm, baseball4/4/23 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and Saint Joseph’s College freshman outfielder Jared Wilhelm (Tolland, Conn.) has been selected as the GNAC Baseball Rookie of the Week.

Wilhelm earns the first GNAC weekly award of his career after hitting .450 (9-20) with three runs and three doubles in a 4-1 week for the Monks.

Pence Earns Second GNAC Weekly Honor

Meredith Pence, softball pitcher4/4/23 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and Saint Joseph’s College junior Meredith Pence (Remington, Va.) has been named as the GNAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this spring.

Pence posted a 3-0 record with a minuscule 0.32 ERA in 22.0 innings last week, allowing just 12 hits while striking out 20 and walking 10 in three starts.

Hopkins Picked as GNAC Rookie of the Week

Tiger Hopkins, men's lacrosse4/4/23 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College freshman attack Tiger Hopkins (Leeds, Maine) has been named as the GNAC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

Hopkins enjoyed another spectacular week with eight goals and six assists totaling 14 points in a pair of GNAC victories. The freshman delivered a pair of goals and three assists in the Monks’ first-ever win (13-10) over Lasell on Tuesday and added six goals and three assists in a 23-9 victory at Albertus Magnus on Saturday.

Dexter Breaks SJC Points Record in Victory Over Lasell

Lydia Dexter, women's lacrosse4/5/23 – Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) broke the Monks’ career points record as Saint Joseph’s College (9-2, 7-0 GNAC) defeated Lasell University (2-8, 2-5 GNAC), 17-3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s lacrosse action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

Dexter entered the contest three points shy of the Monks’ career record, which was set by Elyse Caiazzo ’18, who netted 318 (263 goals, 55 assists) points in 71 games over four seasons. Dexter tied the record with an assist on a Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) goal 4:52 into the game and surpassed the total with an unassisted tally at the 6:56 mark of the first half.

4/10/23 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and three Saint Joseph’s College outdoor track & field athletes have been honored.

For their efforts in the Jim Sheehan Memorial at Fitchburg State University on Saturday, grad student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) has earned GNAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors, senior Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) has claimed Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, and freshman Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) has been chosen as the Women’s Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Coach Will Sanborn to be Inducted into Maine Sports Hall of Fame

Baseball Head Coach Will Sanborn '86The 2023 Maine Sports Hall of Fame Class has been announced and Saint Joseph’s College Baseball Head Coach Will Sanborn ’86 is one of 10 new members who will be inducted in a ceremony held at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland on Sunday, October 29th.

As of March 23rd, Sanborn sports a career record of 801-434-6 (.646) across 30+ seasons – all at Saint Joseph’s – and recently became the 27th head coach in NCAA DIII Baseball history to hit the 800-victory mark. Currently, there are only 11 active D3 skippers in the 800-win club.

Will Pike '11 men's soccer head coachCoach Will Pike to coach Maine women’s pro-am soccer team

Men’s soccer coach Will Pike ’11 will lead the Tide, Maine’s newest pro-am sports team. The team will open its inaugural season on May 21 at Deering’s Memorial Stadium against the New England Mutiny. The team will host home matches on June 3, June 18, and July 1.

Mike McDevitt, women's basketball head coachMcDevitt to be Inducted into Maine Basketball Hall of Fame

Women’s basketball coach Mike McDevitt `83 will be inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame (MBHOF). As a member of the 2023 MBHOF Class, McDevitt will join 16 other individuals, two teams, and six “Legends of the Game” for an induction ceremony held at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Sunday, August 20th.
