Hutchins named GNAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Co-Rookie of the Year
2/4/24 – Berkley Hutchins highlighted the event for the Monks by claiming GNAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Co-Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman, who shares the accolade with Colby-Sawyer first-year Rebecca Radonovich, recorded three victories, set a pair of program records, swam legs for three team-record relay quartets, and racked up a team-high 72 individual points in her first conference championship event. She is the first SJC swimmer to win three GNAC Championship events and fourth individual – first since 2013 – to claim GNAC Rookie of the Year honors, as she joins Lindsay D’Ascanio (2008), Hannah Gajewski (2009), and Lauren Rabideau (2013) on the short list of Monks’ honorees.
Doe Earns Second GNAC Top Rookie Honor
2/5/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College freshman Younton Diamond Doe has been selected as the GNAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week for the second time this winter.
Doe claims the weekly honor after placing third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.28 at the Maine State Championships on Saturday at the University of Southern Maine. With this time, Doe punched his ticket to the New England Championships. He also ran the lead leg in the third-place 4×800-meter relay team, which set a program record 8:23.71 time.
Ramsdell Adds Two Weekly Honors to Impressive List
2/6/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph’s College sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) has been named as the Rookie of the Week by both organizations.
Ramsdell averaged 24.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals while shooting 60.6% (20-33) from the floor and 85.7% (6-7) from the free throw line in a pair of convincing conference victories last week. The sophomore forward tallied career-highs of 32 points and 14 rebounds in a 78-61 triumph at Rivier on Tuesday and added 16 points and seven boards in an 80-52 win over Lasell on Saturday.
Including this week’s honors, Ramsdell has been named as the GNAC Rookie of the Week seven times and garnered MWBCA top rookie accolades on four occasions.
Dunphe Named Maine Rookie of the Week
2/6/24 – The Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College freshman guard Kolbyn Dunphe (Westbrook, Maine) has earned MMBCWA Rookie of the Week accolades.
Dunphe secures the first weekly honor of his career after providing a huge spark off the bench last week, when he averaged 8.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals in two GNAC wins. At Rivier on Tuesday, the freshman guard was an all-around contributor with eight points, 11 rebounds (including six on the offensive end), and three assists and added eight points, seven boards, three assists, and a pair of steals in a huge conference triumph over Lasell on Saturday. Overall, Dunphe dealt six assists and committed just one turnover in 47 minutes over two games.
In 19 games played this winter, Dunphe is averaging 2.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 56.3% (18-32) from the field and 71.4% (5-7) from the FT line. In five games since assuming a larger role on January 20th against Elms College, the freshman is averaging 5.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 steals while shooting 57.1% (12-21) from the field. Dunphe has committed just four turnovers in 104 minutes during these five contests, all conference wins for the Monks.
Hurley Nets 1000th Point in GNAC Victory
2/10/24 – Saint Joseph’s College cruised past Mitchell College, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball action on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.
With a layup at the 8:33 mark of the second quarter senior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) became the latest member of the Monks’ 1000-Point Club and first since former teammate Cassandra Stapelfeld ’22 joined the exclusive list on January 25th, 2020.
Hurley, who entered today’s contest 10 points shy of the milestone, capped the day with a game-high 23 points in just under 26 minutes on the court and is the 27th player in the 47-year history of SJC women’s basketball to net 1,000. Sophomore Madison Lebel (Hermon, Maine) was credited with the assist on the historic field goal.
Hurley Becomes 27th Member of Monks’ 1,000-Point Club
Senior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) netted the 1,000th point of her college career in a 72-54 victory over Mitchell College on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday, February 10th.
Hurley is the 27th player in the 47-year history of SJC women’s basketball to net 1,000 career points and the first to hit the plateau since former teammate Cassandra Stapelfeld ’22 reached the mark on January 25th, 2020.
Ramsdell & Hurley Collect Weekly Accolades
2/13/24 – Sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) has earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week accolades and senior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) has garnered New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) First Team weekly honors.
Ramsdell, who has now claimed an astounding total of 15 ‘Rookie of the Week’ honors this season, is averaging 14.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while starting all 24 of the Monks’ games. The sophomore forward is shooting 48.0% (135-281) from the floor, 34.7% (26-75) from three-point distance, and 67.1% (49-73) from the charity stripe and currently leads the team three-point percentage, in field goals made (135), rebounding, total rebounds (198), and blocked shots (16).
Hurley, who has claimed 35 individual accolades during her college career, is averaging 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game and leads the team in scoring average, total points (368), three-pointers made (53), free throws made (67), assists per game, assists (85), steals per game, and steals (41).
Hurley & Ramsdell Take Home GNAC Postseason Honors
2/28/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball postseason accolades have been released and two Saint Joseph’s College players have been honored.
Senior guard Angelica Hurley, on right side of photo (Groveland, Mass.) has earned First Team All-Conference honors and sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) has collected GNAC Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-Conference, and GNAC All-Rookie Team accolades.
Wani Claims Second MMBCWA Rookie of the Week Honor
2/13/24 – The Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph’s College freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) has been selected as the MMBCWA Rookie of the Week for the second time this winter.
Wani claims his second MMBCWA honor after averaging 16.5 points and 6.0 rebounds to help the Monks extend their winning streak to seven with a pair of GNAC wins last week. The freshman guard netted 20 points – including seven of the Monks’ 11 points in a decisive overtime period – with seven rebounds in a triumph over Emmanuel on Wednesday and added 13 points off a 6-for-8 shooting effort in a victory over Mitchell on Saturday. The first-year standout shot 51.9% (14-27) from the field for the week.
Through 24 games this season, Wani is averaging 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game and shooting 40.4% (93-230) from the field. He earned the first MMBCWA weekly award of his career on January 15th.

2/19/24 – Weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) has been named as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Rookie of the Week.
Five SJC Men’s Alpine Skiers Claim All-Division Accolades
2/14/24 – The 2024 United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Reynolds Division regular season is officially in the books and five Saint Joseph’s College men’s alpine skiers have claimed All-Reynolds Division accolades.
Seniors Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) and Caleb Gorton (Goffstown, N.H.) and sophomore Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) have earned First Team All-Division honors while sophomores Jacob Morris (Woodstock, N.H.) and Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) have been listed on the Second Team.
Strobeck takes home First Team All-Reynolds Division accolades for the fourth-consecutive season after tallying 469 total points, the highest mark in the league this winter. The senior standout recorded three individual victories and a pair of runner-up performances as a senior and heads into the postseason with 25 career podium finishes, a list that includes 17 total wins and seven second-place efforts over four years.
Gorton, a two-time Second Team honoree, claims First Team All-Reynolds Division honors after finishing fourth in the division with 390 total points. The senior posted a pair of podium performances, including a runner-up effort in a slalom race at Lost Valley last Saturday, and was a consistent scorer for the Monks having finished all nine races so far this winter.
Price secured First Team All-Division honors for the second year in a row after posting two individual victories and 369 points, the fifth-highest total in the division in 2024. The sophomore standout racked up the second and third wins of his career in slalom races at Black Mountain and Pats Peak on January 14th and February 3rd, respectively.
Morris heads up the Monks’ Second Team honorees after tallying 341 points and a pair of third-place finishes – at Black Mountain and Sunday River on January 14th and 21st, respectively – as a sophomore. The sixth-highest points earner in the division, Morris joins Gorton as one of only two SJC men’s skiers to complete every race this season.
Davis, a 2023 First Team All-Division selection, earns Second Team acclaim this winter after placing eighth in the league with 291 total points. The sophomore standout helped the Monks secure a top finish with the minimum number of points by placing second in a slalom race at Pats Peak on February 3rd.
Six SJC Women’s Alpine Skiers Earn All-Reynolds Division Honors
2/14/24 – The 2024 United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Reynolds Division regular season is officially complete and six Saint Joseph’s College women’s alpine skiers have claimed All-Reynolds Division honors.
Junior Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) and senior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) have secured First Team All-Reynolds Division accolades while seniors Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) and Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine), sophomore Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.), and freshman Hannah Golden (Concord, N.H.) have earned Second Team honors.
Zordan earns First Team All-Division acclaim for the third-consecutive season after registering six podium finishes, including a slalom victory at Titcomb Mountain last Sunday, during her junior season. She finished second in the Reynolds Division with 505 individual points and notched three runner-up finishes this winter.
Pingree also claims First-Team honors for the third year in a row after posting five podium performances – two runner-up times and a pair of third-place performances – for 455 points, the fourth-highest total in the division this season.
Irvin, a two-time First Team All-Division honoree, takes home Second Team accolades after totaling 267 points, the seventh-highest total in the Reynolds Division, during the 2024 campaign. With this year’s honor, Irvin becomes the first SJC women’s alpine skier to be named All-Division four times.
Perkins earns Second Team All-Division for the third-straight season after recording 261 points during her senior season. Along with junior Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine), she was one of two SJC skiers to finish all nine of the Monks’ races this winter.
Mack secured her first All-Division nod after placing ninth individually among Reynolds skiers with 225 points. The sophomore finished every race except one and recorded a pair of sixth-place efforts this winter.
Golden rounds out the Monks’ group of All-Division honorees after registering 195 points as a freshman. She ranked 10th in the division in points, finished all but one race, and posted a sixth-place performance in a slalom event at Pats Peak on February 3rd.
Five Monks Named as NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction
2/15/24 – A distinguished achievement, the NFHCA proudly recognizes the outstanding academic prowess of 1800 student-athletes hailing from 155 institutions who have each earned an honored place on the 2023 Division III National Academic Squad and five Saint Joseph’s College players have earned the high academic honor.
Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine), Audra Gearin (Salisbury, Mass.), Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine), Kimberly McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine), and Sadie Tirrell (Naples, Maine) have been named as NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction.
The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher trough the fall semester of the current academic year, and who have been nominated by their dedicated NFHCA member coaches.
Melanson Tabbed as GNAC Player of the Week
2/26/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College sophomore midfielder Celia Melanson (Waterford, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Melanson led the Monks to a season-opening 19-8 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday with three goals and four assists for a game-high seven points. Melanson netted five goals with seven assists, 17 ground balls, and three caused turnovers in 16 games – including two starts – as a freshman last spring. The weekly honor is the first of her collegiate career.
Frazier & Wani Garner GNAC Postseason Honors
2/27/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball postseason honors have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph’s College players have earned accolades.
Sophomore guard John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) has claimed First Team All-Conference honors while freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) is listed on the GNAC All-Rookie Team.
Frazier, the 2023 GNAC Rookie of the Year, becomes just the seventh SJC men’s basketball player to claim GNAC First Team All-Conference accolades after averaging 14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 43.5% (136-313) from the floor, 38.7% (89-230) from three-point distance, and 88.9% (56-63) from the free throw line.
Wani, a three-time GNAC Rookie of the Week selection this winter, claims All-Rookie Team honors after tallying 11.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 41.2% (119-289) from the field, 28.6% (34-119) from downtown, and 70.6% (36-51) from the charity stripe while playing in all 28 games, including 20 starts, as a freshman. He led the team in rebounding and steals (33) and was third on the squad in scoring average, total points (308), assists (63), field goals made (119), three-pointers made (34), and free throws made (36).
