On Friday, April 29, at the Stone Barn, the College recognized the academic achievements of our students — and a couple of faculty — at the annual Academic Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to the following students on their awards!

Given to a student who upholds and embodies the values which are inherent to the mission of Saint Joseph’s College.

Catherine McAuley Service Award: Abby Riva
Presented to a student whose commitment and dedication to the Mercy mission is reflected through the student’s acts of community service and outstanding leadership.

Jim Killoran ’80 Public Servant Leadership Award: Carly Jordan
Given to a senior who has a distinguished record of service during their years at Saint Joseph’s College, and who is planning a career in public service.

Jennifer Mary Jimenez Award: Emma Auclair
Presented to the communications student who best reflects the qualities of Jenn Jimenez, Class of 2009. Those qualities include intellectual curiosity, academic achievement, the ability to guide and motivate fellow students, and the potential to make significant contributions to his or her profession.

Sister Dolores Sablone Award: Troy Hendricks
Given to a senior in the communications program based on service, academic performance, and promise for future professional attainment.

Criminal Justice Award: Caitlyn Demers
Given to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in criminal justice.

Elementary Education Student Teaching Award: Olivia Haraden
Given to a student for outstanding performance in a 15-week classroom teaching experience at the elementary level.

Secondary Education Student Teaching Award: Alia Bradley
Given to a student for outstanding performance in a 15-week classroom teaching experience at the secondary level.

Special Education Student Teaching Award: Abby Riva
Given to a student for outstanding performance in a special education level.

Evelyn O’Connor Award: Wyatt Leblanc
Given to the elementary education senior graduating with the highest cumulative grade point average.

Senior English Award: Bailey Smith
Given to the English major who consistently has demonstrated important accomplishments in writing, research, literary criticism, and service to the department.

Fine Arts Award: Maya Michaud
Given for exemplary studio work by a graduating art major or minor.

Servant Leadership Award: Carly Jordan
Recognizes a student who has significantly impacted their campus community through selfless engagement while promoting civility, trust, and respect.

Exceptional Achievement in Academic Community-Based Learning Awards: Mason Morin and Valerie Neuhausser
Demonstrates outstanding participation, commitment, and academic performance in community-based learning projects.

Psychology Department Award: Caitlyn Demers
Awarded to the senior psychology student with the highest grade point average.

Dr. Deacon John McAuliffe Spirit of Social Work Award: Talena Huff
Given to a senior who embodies Deacon John’s love and compassion by both bearing witness and actively supporting those in need.

Physical Education Award: Maddison Cormier
Awarded to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in physical education.

Exercise Science Awards: Emma Allen and Alyson Fillion
Awarded to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in exercise science.

Health and Wellness Promotion Award: Carly Jordan
Awarded to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in health and wellness promotion.

Theology Department Award: Noah Sturgis
Given to a student for excellence in the field of theology.

Sister Mary de la Salle O’Donnell Award: Shawn Breen
Given to a senior history major for excellence in the study of history.

Dr. Stephen Aylward Memorial Political Science Award: Makayla Starbird
Given to a senior political science major for excellence in the study of political science.

Biology Department Award: Faith Boucher
Given annually to a graduating senior for distinction in scientific research.

Sister Mary Joseph Bouchard Award: Priscilla Carnaroli
Given to a senior who, in addition to distinction in the biological sciences, has shown evidence of humanitarian service in contributing to the department by excellence in tutoring and/or student teaching.

Environmental Science Award: Jacob Huberdeau
Given to a student for excellence in the study of environmental science.

Timothy J. O’Connor Award: Eilidh Sidaway
Given to a student for outstanding achievement in chemistry.

Physics Award: Rowan Daligan
Given to a student for outstanding achievement in the application of physics to their field of study or research.

Saint Joseph’s College Department of Nursing Award: Shannon Bethel
Given to a senior nursing student who demonstrates the following qualities and characteristics: The ability to provide patients and families with compassionate, professional nursing care, the ability to make critical judgments based on a sound knowledge base, the potential for leadership within the health care arena and within the profession of nursing.

Sister Mary Consuela White Award: Lauren Malloy
Awarded for excellence in scholarly achievement as evidenced by the highest grade point average among senior nursing majors.

Frances M. Linehan, Maternal Child Health Award: Lauren Malloy
Presented to a senior nursing student who demonstrates appreciation for the dignity and worth of all children and their families.

Carroll L. and Ina G. Bean Award: Danielle Vermette
Given to a senior nursing student for compassion, caring, personal pride, spirit of joy, and cooperation in her role as a nurse.

Ina G. Bean Award: Haley Frohlich
Given to a senior nursing student for scholarly and faithful pursuit of knowledge, commitment to the development/promotion/advancement of nursing as a profession; and compassionate sensitivity to all in need.

Janet Irish Award: Sarah Foley
Awarded to a senior nursing student for their consistent involvement in the Student Nurses Association. Serves as a role model to classmates, demonstrates professional nursing ideals, and performs duties “above and beyond the call of duty.”

Senior Psychology Award: Hannah Egan
Awarded to a senior psychology student who has made a significant impact on the psychology department and the SJC community.

Student-Athlete Academic Awards

Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award: Jacob Huberdeau
Given annually to the varsity male student-athlete who throughout the year has displayed an exceptional level of commitment to and success within both his academic and athletic pursuits.

Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award: Eilidh Sidaway
Given annually to the varsity female student-athlete who throughout the year has displayed an exceptional level of commitment to and success within both her academic and athletic pursuits.

Faculty Awards

Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award: Kevin Mahoney, Ed.D. Assistant Professor, Education
Recognizes the professor who best exemplifies the qualities of respectfulness, enthusiasm, preparation, creativity, fairness, as well as their overall impact on
students’ learning.

Instructional Innovation in Community-Based Learning: Emily Lesher, Ph.D.
Recognizes a faculty member for community-based learning innovation curriculum development, and community outreach.
