Learning first-hand at Hadlock Field

Sport Facilities class listens to Sea Dogs Facilities Director.

In November, Professor Chris Woodside took his Facility management course to Portland for a facility tour and a discussion on running Hadlock Field with Chris Cameron, Vice President / Communications with the Portland Sea Dogs. Chris Cameron (@ChrisRCameron) tweeted that he had a great time sharing his passion for the Sea Dogs and baseball with our students. He says Saint Joseph’s students are always interested and well prepared. He’s hoping they’ll have a few of them participate (hint, hint) in the Sea Dogs internship program this year. (Students that are interested should reach out to the academic advisor.)

Teegan Gilreath“I think that getting out of the classroom and touring sports facilities is a very important aspect of my learning experience. Facility management is the first course that I’ve taken here at SJC where we left campus to go and have hands-on experience. Professor Woodside has given my peers and I this different learning experience and I think that it has positively impacted not just myself but everyone else. From traveling to Boston seeing a brand new facility to going to Portland. Both of these tours were an experience that I have never seen before. This also creates opportunities for us to see if these are potential places that we might work at one day.”

Keegan Wilcox '23 business and sport management“Throughout many of the activities that we as a class have done thus far into the semester, I believe that the New Balance Headquarters trip was one of the most influential and favorite school trips I have attended. It has opened up some thoughts about what I really want to do after school and that there are multiple opportunities within business and sports management jobs that are not discussed as much. Some of these jobs had been displayed at the New Balance facility including some of the day to day jobs and marketing jobs.”
