Faculty Front Row: Love Actually

Share

Please join us for Front Row with the Faculty on Wed., June 9, 4-5 PM with Dr. Steven Bridge as he presents Love Actually: This is What Happened When My Students Tried Putting Jesus’ “Greatest Command” into Practice.

Most of us are at least somewhat familiar with Jesus’ so-called “Greatest Command” to “love God…and love your neighbor.” But why is this directive so important? And what did Jesus really mean by it, anyway? The Gospels’ literary and historical contexts are crucial for grasping their original meanings, and this passage proves no exception. Koine Greek—the language of the New Testament—features no less than five different words for love. My students are often surprised (read “shocked”) to learn which type of love Jesus is actually referring to here. But then when I require them to try putting it into practice? The results are often unpredictable, humorous, and heartwarming. Join us as I share some of these unforgettable stories—and the timeless lesson behind them.

To RSVP, visit Front Row with the Faculty.  A link for the event will be sent in your confirmation email.
