“This past summer I participated in a research opportunity with Professor Mark Green. I assisted Dr. Green in an attempt to find a solution to the issue of dissolving juvenile clam shells due to the acidification of ocean water. I applied the skills I learned from science labs to my research and also learned new skills that will benefit me in class and in my career. On a larger scale, the work we have started has the potential to progress into a way to decrease juvenile bivalve mortality in the future. This effect would help to increase the number of bivalves surviving to adulthood where they can be harvested for food.”
