#GreetingsFromESS—over the course of 70 days spent researching in the field day in and day out, the #SaintJoesMaine Environmental Science Semester students study marine ecology, focusing on a variety of habitats and landscapes that encompass the major themes of the subject. The group travels throughout New England immersing themselves in specific scientific neighborhoods in a sense—from rocky intertidal zones and mudflat environments throughout the midcoast of Maine to beach ecologies in Cape Cod and the salt marsh vistas of Wells, Maine. The salt marsh, for example, is a perfect setting for students to study and understand how different organisms dominate in different habitats along a gradient. Fun fact: a salt marsh is an area of coastal grassland that is regularly flooded by seawater.
