Important Reminder about HR Hiring Requirements

Share

At this time of year, there is a high volume of hiring activity including student workers. Before any employee can begin working, HR must clear the employee to work following the completion of all required hiring and training documents by the student, faculty or staff being hired.

Please be reminded that per USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) regulations, all new employees are required to fill out page 1 of the Federal I-9 form and provide original ID(s) (or notarized copies) for verification of identity and employment eligibility as part of the hiring process.  Federal law requires that newly hired employees complete and sign the form no later than the first day of employment.

Also, background checks for all faculty and staff must be completed post job offer and before the employee starts working. Additionally, COVID vaccination status must also be verified in conjunction with the SJC Health & Wellness Center.

To avoid putting the College in a position of non-compliance with the law, do not allow any employee (including student workers) to begin working until officially hired through the HR process. Hiring Managers will be notified by Human Resources when any new employee or rehire, including any student worker, has completed the onboarding process and is cleared to work.
