Men’s Indoor Track Team Sweeps GNAC Weekly Honors

1/8/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and the Saint Joseph’s College men’s indoor track & field program has swept the slate with three individual honorees.

Senior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) has claimed GNAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors while freshman Andrew James is the GNAC Field Athlete of the Week and first-year Younton Diamond Doe (Pawtucket, R.I.) has collected GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades.

Grace Ramsdell, women's basketballRamsdell Secures Fifth GNAC Top Rookie Honor

1/9/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph’s College sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) has earned GNAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week accolades for the fifth time this winter.

Ramsdell had a strong showing for the Monks in their conference victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, when she contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists while shooting 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from the floor in a 73-52 GNAC triumph.

1/16/24 – The Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly honors have been announced and Grace Ramsdell has been selected as the MWBCA Co-Rookie of the Week. The MWBCA weekly honor counts as her third of the 2023-24 campaign.

Berkley Hutchins, swimmingHutchins Tabbed as GNAC Rookie of the Week

1/15/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph’s College freshman Berkley Hutchins (Springfield, Vt.) has claimed GNAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Week accolades for the second time this winter.

Hutchins easily won the 50-Free (27.00) and 200-Breast (2:44.19) events and finished second in the 100-Back (1:07.72) at Husson University on Friday. She also swam a leg for the Monks’ winning 200-Medley relay quartet (2:02.93).

The freshman standout was first named as the GNAC Rookie of the Week on October 16th.

1/23/24 – Saint Joseph’s College freshman Berkley Hutchins (Springfield, Vt.) has earned GNAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Week honors for the second-consecutive reporting period.

Breya Whitman, track and fieldWhitman Collects Second GNAC Weekly Award

1/15/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College first year Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) has claimed GNAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Squaring off against multiple NCAA DI and DII competitors, Whitman finished 15th in the High Jump (1.50m) at the Suffolk University Icebreaker on Saturday. Her performance was a personal-best and the top height in the GNAC so far this season.

Whitman claimed the first GNAC weekly award of her career on December 11th.

Remijo Wani, men's basketballWani Named MMBCWA Rookie of the Week

1/16/24 – The Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph’s College freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) has been selected as the MMBCWA Rookie of the Week for the first time this winter.

Wani claims the honor after averaging 12.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 steals as the Monks went 1-1 in GNAC play last week. He tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in a win at Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday. On Saturday, the first-year guard recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in a hard-fought loss in overtime to reigning GNAC Champion Albertus Magnus College.

Through 16 games this season Wani is averaging 11.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 40.9% (67-164) from the floor, 30.8% (20-65) from three-point distance, and 72.1% (31-43) from the free throw line. He currently leads the Monks in rebounding and steals per game (1.4) and ranks second on the squad in scoring average and three-pointers made (20) and third in field goals made (67) and total points (185).

Abdirizak and Monday Earn GNAC Weekly Accolades

1/23/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph’s College men’s indoor track & field athletes have earned accolades.

For their performance in the Panther Invitational at Plymouth State University on Saturday, sophomore Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) has claimed GNAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors and freshman Tudum Monday (Lewiston, Maine) has been named as the GNAC Men’s Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Abukar takes home his first honor of the season after winning the 200-Meter (22.72) and fourth in the 60-Meter (7.29) at Plymouth State on Saturday. The sophomore standout also ran a leg for the Monks’ winning 4×400 Meter relay team, which posted a time (3:26.52) that ranks in the top 50 on the NCAA DIII Indoor Qualifying List.

Monday secures his third GNAC weekly honor of the season after winning the 60-Meter hurdles with a new program record 8.79 effort and placing third in the Triple Jump (12.65m). The freshman phenom also set a personal best in the High Jump (1.60m) at the Panther Invitational.

1/29/24 – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph’s College men’s indoor track & field athletes have been honored.

Senior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and freshman Tudum Monday (Lewiston, Maine) has claimed GNAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week accolades.

Farr takes home his third GNAC weekly honor of the season – and ninth of his career – after competing in three events at the Boston University John Thomas Terriers Classic on Friday. The senior standout participated in the 400m dash, placing 47th with a team-record 50.26 time in a highly competitive field that featured runners from NCAA Division I, II, and III. Farr was also part of two relay events, running legs of the 4x400m relay, which finished 15th (3:26.13), and the distance medley, which placed 25th (10:56.87).

Monday collected his fourth GNAC weekly accolade of the season after participating in events at both the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic and the USM Husky Invitational last week. At BU, he competed in the 60m hurdles taking first place in the open section with a time of 9.06. He also competed in the triple jump and earned a 12.47m (40’11”) mark. He then set two personal bests at USM, competing in the high jump and the long jump. He placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.48m (21’3.25″) and 11th in the high jump, clearing 1.65m (5’5″).
