Well done Tiffany Miller-Gagnon, Brianna Johnston and Aaron Rice!

July 18 — Saint Joseph’s College athletic trainers Tiffany Miller-Gagnon, Brianna Johnston and Aaron Rice have been recognized as the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Athletic Training Staff of the Year, as announced on Monday by the conference office.

The major GNAC award is given annually with the winning staff being determined by a vote of conference institutions. Saint Joseph’s was recognized with the same honor in 2014 when Neil Carroll was tabbed as the GNAC Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Head Athletic Trainer Tiffany Miller-Gagnon, who is about to begin her 18th year at Saint Joseph’s, oversees the training needs of the Monks’ 21 varsity programs. She also serves as the SJC Senior Woman Administrator and teaches the SE 203 Care and Prevention of Injuries course, which is part of the Physical Education curriculum at St. Joe’s.

Miller-Gagnon, who grew up in Caribou, Maine, graduated from the University of Maine – Presque Isle with a B.S. in Athletic Training in 2004 and attained her Master’s Degree from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2005.

Under Miller-Gagnon’s watch, Saint Joseph’s serves as a clinical education site for the University of Southern Maine and University of New England athletic training degree programs.

Brianna Johnston, who hails from nearby Windham, earned her B.S. in Athletic Training at the University of Southern Maine in 2018 and was hired as an assistant athletic trainer at Saint Joseph’s in 2019.

Aaron Rice, who came to Saint Joseph’s last October, received his B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Maine in 2013. Prior to working at St. Joe’s, Rice – a Scarborough native – served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Milwaukee Admirals, an American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Nashua Predators.

“We are very grateful to receive this honor,” adds Miller-Gagnon. “We are a great team and work together for our student athletes. Aaron, Bri and I work hard to make the training room the best environment we can. Our student athletes’ needs come first and we wouldn’t be successful without them and the support of our coaches and athletics staff.”
