Field Hockey freshman Maya Waryas to play in Australia this June

Maya Waryas ’26 nursing, will team up with other US field hockey college standouts to compete in June in Australia against their top club teams.

Maya is one of 12-15 players invited by Beyond Sports to represent the US for 12 days down in Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast of Australia. Beyond Sports company’s motto is “Connecting the World through Sports.”

According to SJC Athletics, Maya, a freshman forward, started in 19 of the team’s 20 games. Among her accomplishments are:

  • Scoring a team high; breaking the single season record with 23 goals; assisting on three goals.
  • Her 118 shots on the season ranks second all time.
  • Holds the records for points per game, goals per game, shots per game, and shots on goal per game.
  • On October 15, she scored all three goals in the 3-1 win over St. Joseph’s (Conn.).
  • A week later, she tied the single game goal six goals and 12 points in the win over Dean.
