HOW IT HAPPENED:

Freshman forward Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) put the Monks on the board at the 11:29 mark when she netted her first collegiate goal off an Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) assist. Jacques sent a bouncing ball toward the net that found Waryas, who batted the ball out of the air and into the net.

The 1-0 lead remained until the 57:05 mark, when senior Alexa Gutowski (North Conway, N.H.) scored on a perfectly executed penalty corner. Seniors Megan Quirion (Oakland, Maine) and Molly McCluskey (Orono, Maine) were both credited with assists on the tic-tac-toe scoring play.

TEAM STATS:

The Eagles held the lead in shots (16-12) and penalty corners (13-11) while the Monks posted a 9-8 edge in shots on goal on the evening.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made six saves in the shutout performance while Husson netminder Kimmie Goddard (Westbrook, Maine) also notched six stops in a losing bid.

Saint Joseph’s senior defender Morgan Dalton (Livermore Falls, Maine) made a pair of defensive saves in the triumph and Husson senior back Mallory Fairbanks (Lisbon Falls, Maine) added a defensive stop for the Eagles.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph’s improves to 16-19 all-time versus Husson University and has now defeated the Eagles in three-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2018 season…the Monks have now won four-straight season-openers.
