Briones Earns GNAC Rookie of the Week Honor

 Victoria BrionesThe Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College freshman Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) has been selected as the GNAC Rookie & Libero of the Week.

Briones claims the first GNAC weekly award of her career after averaging 4.36 digs and 2.14 kills per set in a 3-0 week for the Monks. The freshman led St. Joe’s to a 3-2 win over UNE with team-highs of 12 kills and 26 digs and added another double-double with 10 kills and 25 digs in a five-set triumph over Framingham State on Saturday. Briones capped the week with eight kills, 10 digs, and two solo blocks in a 3-1 win at Worcester State.

Through 11 matches, Briones has posted 40 kills, 20 assists, 11 service aces, 131 digs, and three total blocks. She currently ranks second in the conference in total digs and eighth in digs per set (3.20).

Flanagan Named GNAC Golfer of the Week

Trevor Flanagan, golfThe Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College senior Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Golfer of the Week for the first time this season.

This past week Flanagan tied for medalist honors with a 74 card in the UMF Invitational on Sunday after finishing tied for 12th with a 78 in the Thomas College Invitational on Saturday.

For Flanagan, the weekly GNAC honor is the fifth of his career, which includes two GNAC Rookie of the Week honors. He earned his last top golfer honor on October 4th, 2021.

With Flanagan’s honor, the Monks have swept the GNAC Golfer of the Week awards through three reporting periods this fall. Sophomore Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine) earned the same honor the previous two weeks.

Hendricks Collects GNAC Runner of the Week Accolade

Troy Hendricks, cross countryThe Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College graduate student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Runner of the Week.

The 2022 GNAC Man of the Year led all GNAC runners and placed 152nd out of 282 runners with a 27:57 time in the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. Five GNAC teams competed in the 8K race, which also featured eight DI and DII programs.

For Hendricks, the weekly honor is the eighth of his career, his last being on October, 18th 2021.

Collins & Waryas Collect GNAC Weekly Honors

Kassidy Collins, field hockeyThe Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) and freshman Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) have earned weekly honors.

Collins has been selected as the GNAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week while Waryas has claimed GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades.

Collins posted a 0.50 GAA with a .933 save percentage while logging nearly 121 minutes in a pair of SJC victories last week. The sophomore keeper made a career-high 14 saves in a 2-1 overtime win over Thomas College on Wednesday.

Through six games this fall, Collins sports a 1.16 goals-against average with an .829 save percentage after making 34 saves – while allowing just seven goals – in six starts and 360 total minutes. She currently leads the GNAC in shutouts (3), ranks third in save percentage, and fourth in goals-against average.

For Collins, the weekly conference honor is the second of her career. She previously earned GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors on September 20th, 2021.

Maya Waryas, field hockeyWaryas claims the first GNAC weekly award of her career after netting the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory over Thomas College on Wednesday.

In six starts this season, Waryas has netted four goals – including three game-clinchers – with two assists for 10 total points. As of September 19th, the first-year forward leads the conference in game-winning tallies.

Collins Earns Second-Consecutive GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week Honor

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph’s College sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) has been chosen as the GNAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week for the second-consecutive reporting period.

Collins posted a 2.33 GAA with an .837 save percentage in three games for the Monks last week, as she was well-tested stopping 36 of 43 shots. The sophomore keeper made 25 saves – one stop shy of the program’s single-game record – in a 4-0 loss to #8 Kean on Sunday.

The second-year starter is currently the conference leader in goalkeeper minutes (540:55) and shutouts (3) and ranks second in saves (70), third in save percentage (.833), fourth in goals-against average (1.55), and seventh in fewest goals allowed (14).
