“I love my job. When I’m able to, I try to make a point to do some positive outreach around campus and within the departments I visit during my daily mail delivery. I think it’s important to make each person here feel welcome and appreciated.”

It’s hard not to smile when you see Lisa Rodrigue. For one, you’ll be genuinely happy to take a moment out of your day to talk with Lisa during her mail delivery route. Then there’s the fact that the golf cart she’s driving is typically decorated to celebrate whatever time of year it may be. A jack o’lantern in October, a turkey in November, and Christmas on wheels in December. No matter the season, it always turns heads and makes people smile.

This fall, Lisa – our Senior Campus Services Assistant here at SJC – picked up on the fact that many Saint Joe’s staff weren’t feeling as upbeat as they typically do. Whether that was because of the impact Covid has had on our small college community, or personal reasons among employees, Lisa made the decision to brighten everyone’s day.

“After hearing about the difficulties departments were facing, I knew I wanted to do something to help lift their spirits. These are loyal people who come to work every day and never complain, despite many departments having less employees, an increased workload, and overall anxiety regarding the pandemic.”

Lisa loaded up her jack o’lantern mobile and hand delivered a sweet treat to everyone that day. “I worked with Safa from the Saint Joe’s Events Team and put together goodie bags filled with Halloween candy and positive notes for each employee. Safa and I then took our decorated golf cart around campus and distributed the goodie bags to each department. I always am looking for the opportunity to make everyone at SJC know that they are valued and we appreciate all that they do for our community.”

When the going gets tough, it’s nice to know you have a community that appreciates and supports you through it all.
