Balancing Work and Finishing her Degree During a Pandemic

Share

Elisabeth Brewington is a supervisor with the Maine CDC serving on the Infectious Disease/Field Epidemiology team. She also happens to be a Monk —Class of 2020 Master of Health Administration, online!

For her senior capstone project, she researched the true cost of cancer care. Elisabeth says, “Oncology patients can no longer be expected to shoulder the unsustainable and unethical financial burden associated with their care. The term ‘financial toxicity’ is used to describe the all-encompassing burden of care costs, which cancer patients are arguably the most susceptible to. My research served to elevate the general knowledge the medical community has about financial toxicity to describe actionable ways oncology professionals can effectively intervene in a timely manner.” Elisabeth balanced working and studying throughout the pandemic, achieving her MHA last December.

“My coursework and research through Saint Joe’s kept me grounded in perspective and was an active reminder of why I’ve chosen healthcare as my lifelong career.”

We’re so proud to have played a part in Elisabeth’s path to success!
